The Our Town In Sound series is an exciting new approach to making oral history accessible on CD. Using modern radio techniques and styles, we explore smaller East Anglian towns by recording the memories of the people we meet there and then editing them into lively documentaries. The CDs are attractively packaged and sold in local shops.
The first Town In Sound was Framlingham and takes the town trail for its structure. Over 30 local people can be heard, as well as several voices from the archives.
The second Town In Sound was devoted to Diss and was inspired by John Betjemen's film about the town made in 1964. We were fortunate enough to obtain permission to quote from a modern remake and so besides 20 local people we also hear the inimitable tones of Sir John.
The third Town In Sound visits Bungay. We found some great town characters such as the legendary "Chicken Boy", Gordon Knowles and has some priceless storing telling from ten locals, the majority of whom were born well before World War 2.
Our fourth and most recent Town in Sound examines Southwold. It follows the usual Town in Sound format, but has the added appeal that one of the interviewees is none other than the ever popular Michael Palin, whose memories of Southwold go back fifty years.
